FAQ

This page offers the most Frequently Asked Questions about the MetaZero protocol.

What is MetaZero?

MetaZero is a Synthetic Liquidity Layer Protocol for Omnichain Tokenization of Gaming Real World Assets (RWAs). It breaks down traditional barriers and expands traditional gaming assets beyond Web2 gaming communities to a wider range of investors for speculation. Leveraging LayerZero's omnichain messaging protocol, we are crafting an innovative extension towards real gaming markets. Consider a gaming asset from Web2 gaming, like a Counter-Strike 2 skin, which has real-world value. Through a thorough authentication process, MetaZero will create synthetic, on-chain versions of these assets, directly linked to their off-chain counterparts.

What are the Genesis CS2 ONFTs?

MetaZero's inaugural SAT offering represents a carefully curated selection of Counter-Strike Gun skins, tokenized into NFTs on our platform. The Genesis Collection is designed not only as a showcase of rare and valuable gaming assets but also as an early entry point into the unique investment opportunities offered by MetaZero. We plan to offer as much value as possible to Genesis holders overtime.

What is Vortex?

Vortex enables users to tokenize their traditional gaming assets (initially Steam) and bring them onto the blockchain for trading and speculation.

Why buy traditional gaming assets through MetaZero instead of existing off-chain methods?

Steam has monopolized trading and investment speculation on its platform for years. With MetaZero protocol (and through Vortex), anyone will be able to permissionlessly tokenize ANY Steam asset and bring it on-chain for trading and further speculation. This opens up the entire $50+ billion gaming asset market for investment speculation and breaks the monopoly Steam and other gaming ecosystems have held for many years.

If I buy an asset which was tokenized by MetaZero, how does the ownership transfer to me?

It’s linked into the metadata of the ONFT. Each ONFT will have a unique identifier linking it to the original off-chain asset it represents. So holding the ONFT means you effectively also have ownership rights over the original asset. This way you’ll be able to redeem the original asset (Outbound Tokenization) if needed if you hold its on-chain counterpart.

What type of assets will MetaZero support tokenizing?

Any asset that has gifting or trading functionality off-chain will be able to be tokenized through the MetaZero protocol. Initially, we will allow the tokenization of Counte-Strike assets (Steam ecosystem) but will quickly move onto other games within the Steam ecosystem and then expand to other gaming ecosystems.

What if a gaming ecosystem like Steam bans the MetaZero vaults which hold these assets?

Steam won't shut down the vault accounts, as doing so would effectively result in the loss of all assets held in those accounts. Additionally, we won't be 'officially' announcing a Steam integration and will remain compliant with their platform rules and regulations. As has been noted, numerous third-party Steam trading sites have been operational for years without issue.

In the unlikely event that Steam does lock an account, we have our treasury and royalties funds, which will serve as a form of insurance to repurchase the affected assets.

Why has MetaZero partnered up Web3 Games and Game Studios if the focus is on bringing traditional gaming assets on-chain?

A key collaboration point between MetaZero and Web3 Games and Gaming Studios is the BlackHole Event. When the event goes live, our partner communities will be the first to reap its benefits. Additionally, we have other synergies that vary depending on the partner such as strategic or utility based (such as being integrated into their game in some way). These types of partnerships also grow our partnership network to help us tap into and leverage connections to reach our short and long term goals a lot more easily.

Why are we using LayerZero (omnichain) tech instead of standard token contracts for creating on-chain versions of these traditional gaming assets/skins?

By promoting a free market, we avoid tying holders to one specific chain or ecosystem.

We anticipate that individuals will bridge their assets to chains that currently offer access to deeper liquidity. This is similar to the trends we've seen with Solana or Ethereum NFTs, where each had its distinct phase of popularity. MetaZero protocol is designed to transcend the limitations of individual ecosystem narratives.

For instance, if most people are trading these ONFTs on Ethereum but Sui begins to attract more attention and liquidity in NFTs, users can easily bridge their assets to that ecosystem and immediately tap into its liquidity.

What’s the point of tokenizing these skins when you can just trade them on traditional markets so that they can be used easily in-game?

The issue is that a lot of crypto people who don’t trade these assets don’t understand the type of market we have here. Most of the Counter Strike asset market for example is filled with traders who simply want to buy, hold and trade assets as an investment. These traders don’t want to use the asset in-game to play with. CS2 knives are being sold for $100k+. Those are collectors buying the skins as an investment and are not average gamers.

The CS2 market alone is worth at a minimum $3.5 billion. The estimated worth is between $10-20 billion. There is no point in having this type of market exist only off-chain especially when gaming ecosystem like Steam have monopolized the industry and try to box in traders into using their platforms.
